Cadet Promotions

What do I need for my next promotion?

1. View your current status

Login to eServices and navigate to Menu→Cadet Programs→Applications→Cadet Promotions Track Report.
This will show you the list of requirements and an indication of which tasks remain.
Note: Leadership and AE each require a Test *or* Interactive module; if you do both for both areas, you will receive Honor credit (and a star for your Achievement ribbon).

2. Review the Stripes to Diamonds page

This is your #1 resource for how to complete the requirements listed in eServices (step 1) above.
Click on the appropriate "pin" icon to see what you need to do for your next Achievement.
This page also contains the Cadet Super Chart and Personal Cadet Tracker.

3. Take a Drill and Ceremonies test

Click the link above and scroll down to "Performance Tests" to view/download the document.
Print a copy, study it, and bring it with you to your drill test.
Request the Drill Test by submitting the online Request Form for Promotion Requirements.

4. Complete the Final Four "Other Group" Tasks

Grades SSgt or higher (NCOs/Officers) especially should be monitoring their promotion progress in eServices and initiate/request approvals where needed.

In eServices, you might see this in your Cadet Promotions Track Report:

What you want to see is something like this:

Abbreviations for "Other Group": AP - Active Participation, Oath - Cadet Oath, Uni - Uniform, LE - Leadership Expectations

If you see an error (for example, credit given and you know you did not complete the requirements), please approach a senior Cadet Programs Officer.

Other Group: Tasks (4) Required for Promotion - Forms

A. Submit the Request Form for Promotion Requirements to be added to the meeting schedule.

B. Print the Final 4 Form and the additional forms it requires (see links on the form), take these to a squadron meeting, and ask to be evaluated.

Summary of Final 4 Requirements:

  1. Oath. Must recite from memory to a Senior Member. This is a great way to meet someone with whom you do not normally interact.

  2. Uniform. Required to promote to Airman First Class and above. See form for link to print.

  3. Leadership Expectations. Varies by Achievement. For most promotions, print the appropriate CAPF 60-90 series form and be prepared to discuss verbally. At the last promotion of each Phase, a written evaluation will be required. See Promotion Board below.

  4. Active Participation. This is based on participation in meetings or activities. This will be the last promotion task that an approving senior Officer will check off–as soon as possible after the above requirements have been met.

Promotion Board (once per Phase)

  1. Complete all other requirements for your promotion, including Final 4 signoffs (Oath and Uniform may be completed the night of your Promotion Board).

  2. Prepare in writing the two self-evaluation sections in the "CADET'S PERSPECTIVES: section of the CAPF 60-90 series form for your Phase.
Include details and submit it to the Deputy Commander for Cadets via email--this is important so he/she can add written feedback to the form before the meeting.

  3. Submit a request for a Promotion Board via the online Request Form for Promotion Requirements.
We will try to accommodate you within the next two meetings and will inform you of your scheduled date.

  4. Attend the Promotion Board meeting, where your evaluation will be discussed.
This will consist of 1-2 senior members and a cadet staff member in your chain of command.
You will receive a copy of your leadership feedback form.

OFFICERS (Phase III & IV): Staff Duty Analysis
Required for every achievement after C/2d Lt

  1. Staff Duty. Choose an 8-week support staff position. Work with Senior staff on this so it's entered into eServices ASAP.

  2. Study the Staff Duty Analysis Guide.

Follow the Exemplars and Rubrics! Your technical document and oral briefing/presentation will be graded based on these.
You will save yourself and your senior mentor time and energy by making sure all required elements have been attempted.

  1. Technical document. Prepare and submit to a Senior mentor for review/evaluation.
You must receive a passing grade on this to move forward with your oral briefing/presentation; this helps ensure a quality presentation.

  2. Oral briefing/presentation. Prepare, then schedule.

    • Submit an on-time Request Form to deliver your presentation.

    • Provide evaluation forms (see link to Rubrics above) for your SM evaluator(s).

Start thinking about your next SDA assignment a week or two before your next promotion to avoid time delays in eServices.

CAPR 60-1, 5.2.3. General Advancement Pre-Requisites. In addition to fulfilling leadership, aerospace, fitness, and character requirements, during each achievement or milestone award the cadet must (1) be a current cadet member of CAP, (2) possess a CAP uniform and wear it properly (after Achievement 1), (3) have recited the Cadet Oath from memory (see 1.7), and (4) participate actively in unit meetings (see 3.4.1).

CAPR 60-1, 3.4.1.1. Attendance & Promotion Eligibility. Active participation is a promotion requirement because direct, in-person involvement in the Cadet Program is the most effective way for cadets to learn and grow as leaders. “Active participation” is not precisely defined because the reason for, frequency of, and duration of absences varies greatly. Commanders should consider cadets “active” if they participated in four meetings or activities during the previous eight weeks.

If you have any questions about your status, ask your chain of command or the Deputy Commander for Cadets.
